Two Lovers

Rating: 8.5

I know, Joaquin Phoenix is super weird, but this is a really excellent movie. You should see it.

The Reader

There are a lot of holocaust movies out there, but not many that deal with modern day Germany's guilt about it. Also, not many holocaust movies contain sweet lovemakin'!

Waltz With Bashir

Rating: 9

Some great artists have more than just imagination. They're able to turn severe grief, guilt and horror into masterpieces. Waltz With Bashir is a devastating story with gorgeous visuals - the eye movements and facial expressions of the characters are more human than any animated piece I've ever seen. Somehow the animation makes the events of the story more vivid than a traditional documentary. Phenomenal.

The International

Rating: 5

Though it's mostly forgettable, there is a sequence at the Guggenheim Museum that's worth watching.

Coraline

Rating: 8.5

I'm starting to think all the best movies nowadays are animated. Try to see it in 3-D!

The Wrestler

Rating: 8.5

Even though it's a traditional story, The Wrestler feels surprisingly fresh. It's a nice change to realism for director Darren "The Fountain: WTF?" Aronofsky.

Rachel Getting Married

Rating: 7

This one must be a bit of a shock to fans of the Princess Diaries and Bride Wars. Pretty raw.
