Rating: 8This is the first time I've seen a move directed by a fashion designer, (Tom Ford) so I'm not sure whether to be super impressed or take it for granted that making beautiful artifice comes naturally. In any case, it looks gorgeous and Colin Firth and Julianne Moore are excellent.

Jill - I am very delayed in commenting on your comment but I just heard Colin Firth on Fresh Air today and they played the scene from A Single Man where he gets the bad news over the phone (by Jon Hamm, btw). A totally heartbreaking scene and such a remarkable film that has more impact the more I reflect on it. Your comment about its quiet intimacy is spot on.
