Tree of Life

Rating: 8.5

I was a little reluctant to see it because I'd heard rumors of the non-traditional storytelling but I was very moved. The perspective is more like the way humans really experience life, from inside our heads, always applying our memories and seeing life in glimpses rather than a chronological narrative. It isn't for everyone but for me, good stuff.

The Trip

Rating: 8

When I saw a preview with the dueling Michael Caine impressions I was hooked. The rest of the movie doesn't disappoint.

Super 8

Rating: 6.5

I liked the storyline of kids making a movie but the rest of it I thought was less interesting than most episodes of Lost.

Midnight in Paris

Rating: 8.5

When I saw where it was going I thought, delicious! And it is.

Bridesmaids

Rating: 8

Those are just some funny as hell ladies.

Cave of Forgotten Dreams

Rating: 9

It's hard to understand watching a movie about two dimensional drawings in 3-D but Herzog manages to pull it off.

Hanna

Rating: 9

This is the most original film I've seen for a very long time. See it.

Arthur

Rating: 6

I love Russell Brand in Get Him To The Greek. It was the perfect venue to demonstrate his range of talents. Arthur is fine and Helen Mirren kicks butt, but I don't think Brand needs to play it so demure to show his sweeter side. He did it perfect with the self-unaware Aldous Snow character who was vapid and arrogant plus vulnerable and insightful in moments. The cynic in me senses the Hollywood machine is inhibiting Russell Brand. I sure hope not. He is great.

Your Highness

Rating:5

Big disappointment to the Pineapple Expresss fans. I get why it intends to be funny but it just kinda isn't. Still, much love for all the great actors.

Source Code

Rating: 7.5

Hard not to compare it to Inception but Source Code is more relatable in its wacky phony sci-fi logic.

Win Win

Rating: 7.5

Cute. The non-actor wrestler kid gives a realistic performance and Paul Giamatti finally plays somebody likeable.

Paul

Rating: 6.5

I guess I'm not as big a fan of these guys as everybody else. Not bad or anything, just forgettable.

The Lincoln Lawyer

Rating: 7.5

Solid thriller. McConaughey plays a convincing lawyer, Ryan Phillippe a good bad guy and William H. Macy an endearing best bud.

The Adjustment Bureau

Rating: 7

Great chemistry between the lead actors and way less confusing than, but similar to, Inception.

Cedar Rapids

Rating: 7

A lot of the good gags were spoiled in the trailer but cute nonetheless.

Blue Valentine

Rating: 8.5

Like a sock in the gut. Sometimes a good movie makes me feel so bad.

The King's Speech

Rating: 8

Britishy. Actors! Royalish. Westminster Abbeytude. Overcomingness.
